Intensive English Language Program for Asia
with partial scholarship
The Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) is pleased to announce that applications for the Intensive English Language Program sponsored by the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia (UBCHEA) are now being accepted. The 8-week program will run from September 8 to October 31, 2014 and will be administered by the Ateneo Language Learning Center (ALLC).
Successful applicants will be entitled to a scholarship which will include: roundtrip air-fare, tuition, housing accommodation and a settling-in allowance of US$ 100. Food costs for 8 weeks (estimated at US$ 400) are not included in the scholarship. Participants must be ready to shoulder this amount.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
- Be able to confidently use accurate and appropriate language in academic and professional settings;
- Be able to prepare short oral presentations on specific topics within participants’ fields of interest or study;
- Develop more advance reading strategies to get into long, involved and complex texts across disciplines;
- Be able to use reading and writing strategies to facilitate performance in various writing tasks for professional and graduate coursework;
- Write more effectively through directed practice in unified, coherent, concise and well-organized writing;
- Between 20-40 years old;
- Must hold a college degree;
- Currently employed at a United Board-related institution, in a teaching or administrative position requiring extensive use of English, and/or preparing to enroll in a graduate program taught in English;
- Must have an adequate level of English language proficiency that will allow him/her to function in a classroom setting. This will be an equivalent of a TOEFL score between 400 - 500 or an IELTS level of 3.5 - 4.5;(Note: Applicants who have higher scores than these proficiency levels are NOT qualified to join the program)
- Must return after the program to work at the same institution for a year or more.

Theapplication deadline is July 25, 2014. Successful candidates will be notified on August 11, 2014 and are expected to arrive in Manila on September 6, 2014 between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (airport pick-up will be provided). Classes will begin on September 8, 2014. Because of limited number of scholarship slots, please note that the results of the scholarship applications once announced will be final. No appeals for reconsideration will be entertained.
